| Sacramental Catechesis |
SACRAMENTAL CATECHESIS Following the directives of Vatican II, the U.S. Bishops and the Archdiocese of Detroit, St. Francis -Maximilian the catechesis for each sacrament is a communal activity. Catechesis can best be defined as ‘learning process’, this is a better concept than ‘preparation’ because the word ‘preparation’ infers a beginning and an end, whereas ‘catechesis’ connotes ‘ongoing’ that is, we continue to experience learning more and more about the sacrament as we celebrate it during our lifetime! Communal activity means that all the people of the parish participate in this ‘learning’ process. Some of the people will, of course, be more involved in the process than others. Communal activity also means that as much as possible the sacrament is celebrated with the whole parish. Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist are the three best examples of ‘whole parish’ celebration because this celebration occurs during a Sunday Mass. With the sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance) the catechesis and celebration are accomplished in the atmosphere of the entire family.
